Avoid Car Park
Crash Damage

More than half of all UK motorists suffered some sort of damage to their vehicle in a car park in 2015, according to recent research. However, the majority of these damages were superficial and did not require the motorist to submit an insurance claim.

Nevertheless, 8 per cent of motorists surveyed said they would drive off if they hit another car, while two-thirds of motorists said that if they were to damage another vehicle, they would make the effort to notify the owner.

To ensure that you can avoid accidently damaging a vehicle, or having your vehicle damaged next time you are in a carpark, follow these four parking tips:

  • Park within the white lines and as straight as possible.
  • Look for spaces at the end of the row, which may offer more room.
  • Fold in the side mirrors in tighter spaces.
  • Reverse into a space.

While the above tips are helpful, the most effective strategy is common sense — pay attention to what is happening around you when you are entering or leaving a parking spot, and be courteous of those around you.
